PBS develops and implements all types of assessment tools, including skill and ability tests, work samples, interviews, assessment centers, performance tests, and performance appraisal systems. We design the tool, its focus, and its use. Our work does not end there—we also develop administration procedures and scoring protocols. We train our clients how to use and interpret assessment results to maximize validity and utility.

We have created a number of assessment tools that enhance clients’ workforce quality:

  • Ability/Aptitude TestsWe develop tests to effectively measure the skills and abilities associated with superior performance. Through the use of job-related tests, our clients identify the applicants most likely to succeed—objectively, consistently, and cost-effectively.
  • Work Orientation/Attitude AssessmentsOur staff are experts in developing and implementing various kinds of attitude assessments, including measures of integrity, customer service, safety orientation, and managerial readiness. Items/dimensions may be selected from our extensive item bank to reflect required competencies and characteristics, or they may be custom-developed to reflect a specific employment context. The resulting assessment identifies the best candidates for those work environments in which personal work style and habits are at least as important as technical skills.
  • Employee Evaluations and Performance AppraisalsWe are as skilled in measuring the on-the-job performance of incumbents as we are in predicting it for applicants. We have developed job-related performance appraisal systems and protocols for use across a variety of settings, situations, and job levels. Included are supervisory ratings, multiple rater (360° feedback) performance appraisals, and behavioral consistency evaluations. These tools help decision-makers to identify and develop potential in all employees as well as to reward and retain top performers.
