CoachingBy its very nature, the work plan for any coaching engagement must be flexible and open ended. Coaching is an intensively personal process and the methods and techniques to be used are at least partially dependent upon the needs and goals of the candidate in concert with the strategic needs and values of the company. PBS approach to coaching varies from a traditional approach in the:

  • emphasis given to company culture and expectations.
  • customization of the steps and techniques used throughout the coaching engagement to help ensure success and to “fit” the company culture and candidate’s needs. There is no “one size fits all” or a “PBS coaching plan.”
  • practical approach taken to development – we believe in and focus on developmental opportunities that are part of the job.
  • amount of time spent on the initial information gathering phase and feedback component (we have often been told that the most valuable feature of coaching from the participant’s perspective is the detailed and direct feedback received). The feedback includes not only a profile of the candidate, but a profile of the job and the company culture. We have found feedback is most useful when given in a context.
  • tailored approach taken to interpret assessment results in terms of success at the company in addition to success as an executive.

Our typical engagement lasts from 6 to 8 months and includes gathering information on performance and competencies, developing an action plan, ongoing coaching and support, and follow-up.
